Join us for our signature 1.5 hour class specializing dances and rhythms of the Baga, Bamana, Malinke, and Susu people of West Africa! All ages and levels are welcome. Funding for this program is provided by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.

About the event

This bi-weekly class is led by a rotating list of Giwayen Mata lead dancers to include Adi Bates, Joi Hudson, Nneka Gales, Tambra Omiyale Harris, and Zakiyyah Sabree. Perfect for dancers of all ages and experience levels, the Giwayen Mata dance floor has been a gathering place for men, women, children, elders, ameteurs, professionals, and more for over 25 years!

Bring: water, cash to "give the drummer some" (tips are optional), and your open mind.

Wear: comfortable athletic or dance wear to include but not limited to lappas/wrap skirts, shokatos/loose pants, leggings/briefs, and t-shirts/tanks.

Parking: arrive 15 minutes early to find parking; use of Candler Park MARTA lot is permissible.
