Inspired by the legacy of education, resistance, and unity observed annually during Black August, Giwayen Mata presents “We Be The Movement”, a performance experience that embodies our dedication to a decades-long grassroots tradition of solidarity with incarcerated and oppressed Black freedom fighters all over the world.

Presented through the lens of black womanhood, Giwayen Mata uses dance, rhythm, and song to pay homage to the Pan-African liberation movements that made us. Here, we amplify the voices and ideas of black women leaders who strategically weave both self and community care as central practices in the empowerment of people all over the world.
