  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Service Description

Jazz Dance movements like the “Charleston”and “kick ball change” can be clearly identified in foot patterns found in African Dances. However, the influence of African Dance on the world of Jazz Dance does not end there. Tailored for pre-professional, collegiate, or middle and high school dance courses, this lecture-demonstration is led by dance educator and Giwayen Mata’s Artistic Director Tambra Omiyale Harris and is supported by live accompaniment from the jembe drum orchestra. Participants will learn West African dance techniques that support principles of engagement and movement techniques of Jazz Dance. This booking selection can be tailored to fit within 45-90 minute presentation slots and is recommended for a minimum of 2 sessions; also great as an artistic residency. # of performers may vary from 2-5 featuring 1 instructor plus live drummers. Virtual presentations and live stream options are available.
